Nagoya University
Nagoya University (NU), originally founded in 1871, is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Japan. It is one of the 10 Designated National Universities in Japan—a highly selective group of elite institutions chosen by the Japanese government to lead higher education and research in the country. Since 2000, researchers from Nagoya University have been awarded six Nobel Prizes, and the university continues to be a global leader in research across various fields, including medicine, automotive engineering, physics, chemistry, and biotechnology.
The G30 International Program at Nagoya University offers 10 undergraduate, and 27 graduate degree programs specifically designed for international students. These programs are fully taught in English, with no minimum Japanese language requirement at the time of enrollment. The G30 programs cover a wide range of disciplines, including natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, law, and economics.

Financial aid and Tuition Waiver
Nagoya University offers a wide range of financial support options for international students, including two full scholarship schemes specifically for G30 undergraduate program students. International graduate students can also apply for embassy- or university-recommended MEXT scholarships. In addition, the WISE Program (Doctoral Program for World-leading Innovative & Smart Education) provides scholarships and research funding for both master’s and doctoral students in select key research fields. Tuition waiver programs are available for students in financial need, and most international students are eligible for a 30–50% tuition reduction depending on their guarantor’s financial circumstances. The university also offers on-campus employment opportunities, such as positions as research or teaching assistants.
Japanese language education after enrollment (required or elective)
G30 undergraduate program students are required to earn a certain number of credits in Japanese language courses during their first year. Although these mandatory courses last only one year, continued Japanese language study is strongly encouraged. Nagoya University offers a range of Japanese classes for all proficiency levels — from beginner to intermediate and advanced — as well as specialized courses in business Japanese and advanced kanji.
Dormitory
G30 undergraduate students are housed at an international student dormitory during the first year of their studies. Each student is assigned a single-occupancy room, fully furnished with a private bathroom and kitchenette. Laundry facilities are available on every floor, and floors are designated separately for male and female students. The dormitory is about a 10-minute walk from the main campus and only 5 minutes from the nearest subway station.
The university also offers dormitories for international graduate students. Each graduate school supports incoming graduate students in applying for university dormitories or finding accommodations in the private rental market.
